Mark Wahlberg was born on June 5, 1971 in Boston, MA. Mark Wahlberg is the youngest of nine children born to his truck driving father Donald and nurse mother Alma. In 1982 after his parents divorced, Mark Wahlberg and his 8 brothers and sisters lived in a three bedroom apartment with their mother. Mark Wahlberg and his brother Donnie were already members of the boy band New Kids on the Block at the time. Mark Wahlberg did not like the strict voice and choreography lessons demanded by the group so he quit. Mark Wahlberg ended up dropping out of high school in 9th grade and was convicted of selling drugs and armed robbery. After serving time as an adult, young Mark Wahlberg realized he did not want to continue on this path. Upon his release from prison, Mark Wahlberg's brother Donnie took Mark under his wing and tried to keep him out of trouble. Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch was the result of this guidance. Mark Wahlberg would open for the New Kids on the Block shows with his tough rapper persona and jail house physique. Mark Wahlberg's physique caught the attention of the executives at Calvin Klein and Mark Wahlberg signed a two year contract. Marky Mark's second album was a flop and Mark Wahlberg had two assault charges in a year. Director Penny Marshall approached Mark Wahlberg about acting. Mark Wahlberg accepted a role in Renaissance Man ( Danny Devito) in 1994. Mark Wahlberg then stole scenes from Leonardo DiCaprio in 1995's The Basketball Diaries. In 1997, Mark Wahlberg received critical acclaim for his role in Boogie Nights (Heather Graham, Burt Reynolds, Julienne Moore). Mark Wahlberg has had continued success in film with his movies The Italian Job (Charlize Theron, Donald Sutherland) and Shooter (Danny Glover). |
